The Eastern Region police have launched an investigation into the cause of an accident that killed the District Chief Executive for Bibiani-Anhwiaso Bekwai, Alfred Amoah, and his driver.
The deadly collision, which involved a fuel tanker with the license plate GN-8549-X, a trailer with the number AS-4229-X, and the official vehicle of the DCE, a Nissan Patrol with the license plate GN-2060-18, happened at Akim Fisher on the N6 motorway at around 6:30 on Tuesday night. According to sources, the DCE and his driver suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot.
The Ghana Police, National Fire Service, and Ambulance Service personnel who rushed to the scene were able to transport some injured victims to the Kibi Government Hospital for treatment.
According to a police statement, "a Man Diesel Fuel tanker driven by Habibu Adam, 35 years old, with an empty tank from Kumasi direction, saw the danger ahead and applied his brakes to avoid a crash." He lost control of the steering wheel, veered off his lane, and landed in a ditch on the offside when facing Accra."
