A 31 year old nurse of believed to be serving at Bawku Presbyterian Hospital in the Upper East region Mr. Ismael Pumi Bashiru met his untimely death today in the hands of armed robbers. The innocent nurse was said to be driving back from Bolgatanga where he spent the weekend.
According to A1 radio news monitored by CitizenOne, when the young man got closer to Zebilla, armed robbers had mounted a road block. He sensed danger and attempted to reverse. Unfortunately for him the robbers noticed his intention and shot from long range through the windscreen several times. He sustained gunshot wounds compelling him to stop. The armed robbers took away his mobile phones and undisclosed amount of money.
Bashiru was rushed to the Zebilla Government hospital after the robbery operations where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
ASP David Fianko Okyere, Public Relations Officer for Upper East Regional Police command who confirmed the sad incident to journalists in Bolgatanga this afternoon said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the mogue. He added that the police had commenced investigation into the unfortunate incident.
Nurses are gradually becoming targets for armed robbers and criminals. It will be recalled that a nurse by name Ruth Eshun was killed by unidentified criminals in Kumasi recently. The perpetrators of the heinous crime are yet to be arrested for prosecution.
The Bolgatanga-Bawku road has experienced series of armed robbery attacks in the recent past. The criminals usually attack at the Zebilla stretch of the road. Traders have been advised to travel together and with police escort due to the menace.
