The Tesano District Police Command has detained a suspected fake soldier for allegedly defrauding an immigration officer.

Richard Walker, the defendant, has been arrested for allegedly collecting GH¢ 8,000 to enlist a friend into the Ghana Armed Forces. The victim is a Ghana Immigration Service officer, whose name has been withheld by the police.

The perpetrator, Richard Walker, reportedly went into hiding after taking the money from the victim before his arrest.

DSP Efia Tenge, the Accra Regional Police Command's Public Relations Officer in Charge, verified the story to DGN Online, adding that the complainant's complaint was issued by the Tesano District Police Command on May 3, 2021.

She said that in October 2020, the victim reported Richard Walker to the police for stealing money from him. She reported that the perpetrator was apprehended on May 9, 2021, at his hideout in Tabora, near Abeka Lapaz, thanks to police intelligence.

“When he was arrested and searched, a sum of GH¢ 2,000 was discovered on him. Further police reports found that the perpetrator is not a military officer but was impersonating one, according to DSP Tenge.

She maintained, "We have begun inquiries into the matter and will charge him with fraud and impersonation."

The defendant was given police enquiry bail to a reliable surety, according to DSP Tenge, who added that the investigation was still underway.
