Police in the Ashanti Region have apprehended five armed robbers who are suspected of robbing a gold dealer.
The arrest was made as a result of an intelligence-led operation on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
According to an Ashanti Regional Command statement dated May 28, the suspected thieves seized gold from a dealer at gunpoint in Akyem Adukrom.
Adams Awal, Ibrahim Hamidou alias Akwasi Anokye, Inusah Moro, Nasiru Salifu, and Kwadwo Amponsah are the accused currently in police custody.
“Items retrieved from them include one AK 47 Assault Rifle, two magazines loaded with 24 rounds of ammunition, one python revolver pistol, eight BB live cartridges, nine gold nuggets and an amount of GHC 9077.00,” the police revealed.
The security service also disclosed that the Toyota Land Cruiser with trade plate number DV 4142 F had been confiscated.
Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional Police Department is looking for three more robbers suspected of gunning down a lawyer on Saturday.
