Angry family chases hospital over missing corpse on burial day - GhPage

A family in the Assin South District of the Central Region are enraged over the missing corpse of their relative.

The said missing corpse was reportedly deposited at the St Xavier Hospital Mortuary in Assin Fosu for preservation.

But the family of the deceased says they could not find the corpse of their relative when they visited the hospital.

The final funeral rites of the deceased, Linda Obiri-Akufo, 57, was originally scheduled for October 1 and 2, 2022.but the family cannot find the body to bury.

The husband of the deceased Linda says arrangements had been made for the funeral only to be told that the body of his wife was missing from the morgue.

"I who doubles as the Ankobiahene of Nunua Asubone, all the necessary arrangements had been made including food and drinks, only to be told the body cannot be found".

He says food and drinks have already been bought but the family had no option than to call off the funeral.

This angered the family who stormed the St. Xavier Hospital to seek answers and save for the timely intervention of the police the situation would have degenerated into chaos.

According to the Assemblyman for the area, Mr George Oliver Gyimah, the hospital has pleaded for two weeks to search for the body.

The family of the decease say they suspect the body of their relative has been sold by the hospital

The Sister in charge of the St. Francis Xavier Hospital has asked for public to remain calm as they search for the body, further urging them to keep faith with the hospital

She said "though it's a human institution and such things could happen once a while, stringent measures are in place to ensure it does not happen at all".
