Corruption and Favoritism hits the selection of Regional Trainers for 2021 PHC.
Ghana statistical Service begun training of Regional trainers for the 2021 Population and Housing census via zoom, prospective regional trainers were selected based on performance to participate in face to face training.participants wrote online assessment for the selection.
The final Assessment for the selection which ended on Wednesday 26th May 2021 has been compromised of corruption and favoritism, competent compromised in the selection.
Ghana statistical Service conducted a 10 day residential face to face face training for the prospective regional Trainers. The prospective regional trainers were taken through intensive training on map reading, using the Computer Assisted Interviewing (CAPI) app to collect data. The purpose of the training is to equip the prospective regional trainers with requisite knowledge and skills to be able to train supervisors and enumerators to enable them to develop the skills and knowledge in collecting data and record accurate responses from respondents.
The final selection of the regional trainers was based on their performance in the electronic assessment, mock interview and presentation assessment. The electronic assessment was made up of multiple choice questions pre installed on the tablets meant for the census exercise.
Two electronic assessment was taken by the prospective regional Trainers each assessment carried hundred percent(100 %) with 25 multiple choice questions.
The mock interview was part of the assessment for the selection, with the mock interview, two prospective regional trainers, one act as enumerator and the other act as a respondent. Marks were awarded to prospective regional Trainers who conducted the mock interview and the respondents.
The presentation assessment was also carried some marks, since the main objective for the training is to equip the trainees with presentation skills to enable them to train the toes at the district level.
The final selection of regional trainers was released on Saturday 29th May, 2021 around 5pm. Some regional Trainers has accused the selection at the Greater Accra as corruption oriented and favoritism, according to the aggrieved prospective regional trainers those who excel in the training were not selected but those who didn’t do well were rather selected for regional trainers.
One of the prospective regional trainers claimed he had 80% percent scores out of 100 and his class mate had 96% percent, both of them excel in the the presentation assessment but a female participants who had 48% and 52% and struggled in the presentation assessment were rather selected to train the supervisors and enumerators.
As statistical service is preaching for complete enumeration and quality data, if trainers who are not qualified as trainers are put in the realm of affairs the quality of data they preaching of will be difficult to achieve.
