Hearts of Oak have a bad start to the season, struggling to win games after four matches played. The Phobians have only managed three draws and a defeat in their opening games of the season. Hearts of Oak’s title defence began with a goalless draw against Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium with the result sending shocks down the spine of the Phobian fans. They regrouped for their second week game against West Africa Football Academy in Sogakope but the story was not different as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Academy Boys.
The result produced at Sogakope in the second week was repeated in their third week clash against two time Ghana Premier League champions, Aduana Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium. Hearts of Oak however went down to AshantiGold in the 5th week at the Len Clay Stadium after Yaw Annor and Abdul Salam got the two goals for the four time Ghana champions. The result left Hearts of Oak on three opening points out of a possible 12 which has left Mohammed Polo peeved over the performance of coach Samuel Boadu. Polo has called for Samuel Boadu’s sack if he cannot perform to the utmost.
"Review Samuel Boadu's work as soon as possible, if he cannot turn around the current run of poor form he should be sacked. If he can't bounce back just give him the sack," Polo told Akoma FM. Hearts of Oak have miss their week five clash against former Ghana Champions, Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium due to their continental campaign. The Phobians have a tough clash against Algeria club, Jeunesse Sportive de Saoura in the first leg of the CAF Champions League at the Accra Sports Stadium before traveling to Algeria in a week for the second leg.
