Brief History Of Ghana’s Greatest Legend

Boxing is a well known sport and a very good business to invest in as well. The world has seen many great boxers over the years and Ghana in no exception. We are taken a look back at one of the greatest Ghanaian boxer of all time.

Born on July 19, 1958, Azumah Nelson is a Ghanaian boxer who was a two weight world champion, WBA featherweight title and WBC super featherweight title.

He began his professional boxing career at the 1978 All Africa Games and commonwealth Games the same year winning Gold medal in the featherweight class at both events. Azumah was not known outside Ghana all though he was undefeated in 13 fights.

In 1982, he has his international recognition when he challenged WBC featherweight champion Salvador Sanchez at the Madison Square in New York. Azumah won all four of his fight in 1983 and had two fight the following year. He became boxing royalty by knocking out Wilfredo Gomez in 1984.

Azumah Nelson is considered as the greatest boxer in Africa as a whole. He had a total of 47 fight under his belt. He won 39 with 28 of them being a technical knockout, lost 6 and 2 draws.
