Richard K. Atikpo, the board chairman of Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League, honored his birthday on Sunday, July 17, 2022, with an unique football tournament in the Jasikan District of the Oti Region.
The two-day event brought together hundreds of young people from different towns in the area to highlight the region's sporting prowess and social cohesiveness.
Atikpo, who serves as the region's representative on the Council of States as well, made use of the opportunity to emphasize the importance of sports and their influence on the nation.
He believes that the area is rife with potential, which must be fostered for the sake of both the region and the country.
Mr. Atikpo promised the populace that the football gala would be a yearly occasion with ambitions to spread it throughout the entire region.
Prizes were awarded to participating teams and the eventual winner.
As part of the celebrations, 400 deprived people in the Guan and Jasikan Districts were registered onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Mr. Atikpo is also using his own funds to build a mechanized borehole in Likpe Alavanyo, a poor neighborhood in the Guan District. He is also starting a project to build and rehabilitate certain identified dilapidated educational infrastructure in the Oti region.
