Asante Kotoko Granted The Chance To Register Richmond Lamptey By Court Of Arbitration For Sports

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have been given the green light to register midfielder Richmond Lamptey following a ban by the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

Confirming the news on their social media page, Asante Kotoko explained that their legal representative has been served a ruling by Court of Arbitration for Sports granting a stay of execution for the player to be registered. The club is ready to pursue the matter to its finality.

“This afternoon, the club through our lawyer Nilo Effori have secured a ruling from CAS granting Richmond Lamptey provisional measures (Stay of Execution) against the decision of the GFA Appeals Committee meaning Lamptey is free to continue his career. The club would continue to pursue this matter until the final determination of the case.”

Richmond Lamptey - a former player of Inter Allies - was named as part of players that were involved in a match fixing scandal in a Premier League game between AshantiGold and Inter Allies at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

Following the ruling, Asante Kotoko petitioned Court of Arbitration for Sports since they are current employers of Richmond Lamptey, earning a stay of execution.

Richmond Lamptey has become an integral member for Asante Kotoko after helping the club win the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.
