CK Akonnor has released a farewell message to all Ghanaians after he was sacked together with his two assistants from the Black Stars. CK Akonnor was appointed head coach in January 2020 after managing teams like Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the two biggest clubs in Ghanaian football.
In his time as the coach of the black stars, he managed 10 games and won only 4 and also lost 4.
In his farewell message, CK Akonnor thanked the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo as well as the sports ministry. He said “I’m grateful to H.E President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Sports Ministry, my former boss Kwesi Appiah, the leadership of the GFA, colleagues I worked with, players and Ghanaians for the opportunity to serve. Wishing the team all the best Thank you Ghana”
CK Akonnor came under heavy criticism after losing what was his last match in charge of the national team. The lack of precision and definite formation of the team is alleged to be one of the key factors for his dismissal.
The GFA and the sports ministry are yet to appoint a new coach for the team. However, sources close to the ministry indicate that Herve Renard and Paa Kwesi Fabin are leading candidates for the role.
Who do you think should be the next coach for the black stars?
