The Ghana Premier League (GPL) is the flagship competition of the country which has produced some great players for our national teams. Several renowned internationals started their careers in the GPL; however, most of these internationals hardly return to play in the league. Most often than not, Ghanaian internationals prefer to end their careers in lower tier leagues abroad than in the GPL. Football fans in the country have always wished that most of their favourite Ghanaian internationals end their careers at home.
Nevertheless, a few of the internationals returned to have short stints in the league before ending their careers. The likes of Laryea Kingston, Richard Kingston, Baffour Gyan and a host of others ended their careers in the GPL. Asamoah Gyan is the latest top international to return to our local league, and he is being praised for his decision.
Ghanaian legend, Nii Odartey Lamptey was the first international player to return to the GPL when he joined Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2005. The player who was labeled as the next Pele left the shores of Ghana to join Belgian giants, Anderlecht after his heroics in the U 17 world championship. The played in Belgium, Netherlands, England, Italy, Portugal, Germany, China and the likes.
He is currently the assistant manager of Sekondi Wise Fighters, and he is also engaged to actress and model, Ruweida Yakuba.
