CAF Bans Ghana Favorite Stadium From Hosting International Matches

The Kumasi-based stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, has being in the headlines in recent days. This was the stadium that Ghana hosted the first leg tie against the Super Eagles of Nigeria a few weeks ago. According to reports from the Ghana Football Association, the Confederation Of African Football (CAF) has issued a statement about the boycott of Baba Yara stadium from hosting International games.

Here's the statement made by CAF: "Following the one match approval given by CAF for the use of Baba Yara Sports Stadium(Kumasi) in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers playoff round matches under the condition that specific points were to be corrected in the stadium, based on the report received from the CAF inspector that was on-site, we regret to inform you that the improvements made are still not up to the standards required by CAF to host Senior International A matches."

The letter continued, "Unfortunately, the level of implementation of all the CAF remarks were not satisfactory, including the quality of the equipment and materials used in the different functional areas in the stadium. As a result of the reported situation, we have taken the following decision that Baba Yara Sports Stadium is automatically removed from the lists of CAF approved stadiums and will only be approved for any subsequent CAF/FIFA International senior national teams matches and CAF Men's inter-clubs competitions following the implementation of all the CAF remarks."

To sum it up, 'CAF' refusal to allow international matches on the said stadium, as stated earlier, boils down to poor facilities in the stadium. This is no good news to Ghanaians, but measures can be put in place by the management in collaboration with the GFA to improve the quality of not only Baba Yara Sports Stadium, but also every stadium across the country. In fact, the Ghanaian people love football and it's such a great honor for International matches to be hosted here. We can't afford to watch opportunities like this slip from our fingers.
