Best AFCON results: Runners up (2013)
Skipper: Issoufa Dayo
Player to watch: Edmund Tapsoba
CAF Rankings: 11
FIFA Rankings: 60
The Stallions enjoyed stellar World Cup qualifiers. They were undefeated in all six group games. They drew with Algeria in both games although they could not qualify. They topped their group (B) in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers. They didn't qualify for the 2019 edition in Egypt and will try to further the semi-final defeat on penalties against Egypt in 2017. Kamou Malo, former RC Kadiogo and AS SONABEL coach will relish the opportunity to coach his special Burkina Faso at the AFCON. The Stallions are unbeaten in 13 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers. They will eye another fantastic run like the 2013 AFCON when they eliminated Ghana in Semi-final and lost narrowly to Sunday Mba's 40th-minute strike to the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria. They will open their campaign with a huge fixture at Stade Paul Biya in Yaounde against Cameroon. Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea complete the group. Former Ajax Amsterdam striker Lassina Traore is missing the tournament due to injury. The strength and power of Burkina Faso players are incredible. They are always good, physically.
The core of the team.
Herve Kouakou Kofi of Charleroi is the undisputed goalkeeper for Burkina Faso. He is a regular for the Belgium Jupiler Pro League side. The former Asec Mimosas and LOSC Lille goalkeeper is reliable.
Edmund Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen is a talented young central defender who looks physically good. The 6 ft 4 in defender will be a handful for attackers in Cameroon.
Issa Kabore of Troyes will be at Right Back.
The experienced Charles Kabore was not selected. Bryan Dabo is injured. The onus lies on 33-year old Adama Guira to lead the midfield. Bertrand Traore and Mohammed Konate are the players to inspire Burkina Faso in the attack. The Stallions will surely miss Lassina Traore and Bryan Dabo.
Herve Kofi Kouakou (GK)
Issa Kabore, Steeve Yago, Issoufa Dayo, Edmund Tapsoba, (DF)
Adama Guira, Gustavo Sangare (CM)
Bertrand Traore, Cyrille Bayala, Zakaria Sanogo (AM)

Expectations: Quarter Finals
