17 years ago Gerrard was made captain, here is a brief history and achievements

Stephen George Gerrard was born in Merseyside on 30 may 1980, Gerrard made senior career debut for Liverpool in 1998, in January 2000 Gerrard helped Liverpool secure an unpredicted treble of cups, and after further cup success the next season, Gerrard was given captain in 2003.

In 2005 , he led Liverpool to a fifth European tittle, being named man as man of the match as Liverpool came from 3:0 down to defeat Milan in what came known as "miracle of Istanbul".

The following year, Gerrard played the 2006 FA cup final, which have been called the " Gerrard final" . Both finals have since widely regarded as amongst the greatest in history of each competition, chosen by the Daily Graphic as Liverpool creates player ever, Gerrard has appeared in 710 matches scoring 186 goals and made 145 assists according to sky sports, having won three league cup, two FA cup 3 community shield two UEFA supper cup, one champions league, One UEFA cup and many more individual awards, he is the current manage for the Scottish side Rangers FC.
