Arthur Wharton is widely considered to be the first black professional footballer in the world. He was born on October 28,1865 in Jamestown, Accra,Ghana. Wharton was the fist black professional footballer and first to play in the football League .His father Henry Wharton was Grenadian and mother Annie Florence Agyriba was Ghanaian .In 1886 he equalled the amateur world record of 10 seconds for the 100-yards sprint in AAA Championship. It's very rewarding to Ghana that the first world black professional footballer emerged from Ghana but not from any other African country. Most people may not know about him because he is not often pronounced to people but might be known by most football historians. The amazing fact about this guy is he was not only Africa's first professional footballer but he was also the world's first black professional footballer and also broke a world record too adding up to his achievements.
