Asante Kotoko Send a Strong Warning to Premier League Clubs

Spokesperson for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, David Obeng Nyarko says the club is very much ready for any competition that comes their way next season.

Asante Kotoko went the whole of last season without a single trophy to their credit much to disappointment of their numerous and large following. They lost the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title to arch rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak after clocking 57 points and placing second on the league table. Hearts of Oak won the league with 61 points at the end of the season. Asante Kotoko were eliminated at the quarter finals of the 2021/22 MTN FA Cup via the penalty shootouts by Berekum Chelsea.

David Obeng Nyarko is confident that the record Ghana Premier League holders are very much ready for next season’s Ghana Premier League. Kotoko is ready for the upcoming season, David Obeng Nyarko declares. "We are ready for the upcoming season, this is Asante Kotoko and we are fully prepared for any tournament so I can say for a fact that we are ready," Obeng Nyarko told Kumasi based OTEC FM. "We are hoping that our fans will also be ready and add their numbers and quota to us so we can get a perfect team to compete.” He concluded.

Asante Kotoko have wrapped up their pre-season abroad in Dubai where they played in three friendly matches to strengthen the squad ahead of the start of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season. The 24 times Ghana Premier League holders lost 1-0 to Dubai based second tier club, Al Hilal in their first pre-season match before drawing 1-1 with Liwa FC, another lower tier side. The Porcupine Warriors were billed to play yet another lower tier club, Atletico Arabia FC on Tuesday but the game was called off at the eleventh hour due to “technical reasons” beyond the control of the two clubs.

A final friendly exercise against LaLiga Academy HPC ended 1-1 to complete their pre-season tour of the United Arab Emirates. The two times CAF Champions League winners went the whole of last season without a trophy and will return from Dubai to open their next season top flight campaign against Dreams FC at the Dawu Park.
