Asante Kotoko Record Convincing Win To Stay On Top Of League Table

Asante Kotoko continue to occupy the top spot of the league after dispatching Ashanti Gold through Frank Etouga’s hat trick at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The porcupine warriors moved to 26 points after their impressive display at home.

The results have compounded issues in the camp of Ashanti Gold and will pile incessant pressure as well.

Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold had a balanced opening five minutes as they attacked cautiously and left no vacuum for the other to take advantage of.

Ashanti Gold had a foul halfway as Imoro Ibrahim was penalised, the resulting cross was whisked in and followed up with a header, but goalkeeper Danlad had his palms around the ball.

Ashanti Gold grew in confidence as they are saw much of the ball, attacking through the middle but the last attempt from Seth Osei was saved by Danlad.

Kotoko attack down the left and cross curved into the box by Stephen Amankona curved a cross into the box, which was latched on by Mfgue, but the Cameroonian is flagged offside, Ashanti Gold attacked down the right but Mubarik Yusif intervened for Kotoko. 

Stephen Amankona rattled the cross bar after connecting to a corner kick. 

Imoro Ibrahim combined with Mudasiru Salifu to find Frank Etouga but his hot at goal landed in the waiting arms of goalkeeper Dennis Votere. 

With urgency, the two sides maintained the momentum while creating chances to break the deadlock. 

Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold did all they can to get a goal but those efforts were not powerful to make difference as the first half ended goalless. 

Asante Kotoko began the second half with purpose as they launched attack for glory. 

Minutes on, George Mfegue connected a  pass with a low shot towards goal and a defender dived to intercept it with his hand which resulted in a penalty. Frank Etuoga stood up to the occasion and sent the keeper the wrong way to put Asante Kotoko into the lead. 

Cameroonian Frank Etouga later added the second goal for Asante Kotoko. 

Frank Etouga completed a hattrick as he scaled over a fierce challenge from Ashanti Gold defence to connect in a low cross from inside the box. 

Elijah Addai managed to get a consolation for Ashanti Gold. 

Asante Kotoko ended the entire proceedings with victory.
