Accra Hearts of Oak are back to winning ways.

The defending champions Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Ashanti Gold by 2 goals to 1 at the Accra Sports Stadium this evening. Hearts were desperate to change the poor form they have exhibited throughout the season. They needed to change the narrative that has followed the all season. They got off to a bright start when they opened the scoring through an Afriyie Barnieh penalty. Their joy was however shortlived when Aminu Adams slotted in the equaliser for Ashgold.

Samuel Boadu knew he had to make some adjustments to change the results. He brought on Kofi Kordzi for Isaac Mensah and also Patrick Razak for Obeng Junior. The change seems to have energized the Phobians as they went in search of the winner. Their efforts were duly rewarded in the 59th minute when Barnieh rifled a shot into the roof of the net to restore their lead. That goal sent the stadium into pandemonium. There wasn't much action after that as Hearts of Oak strolled to victory. The win has cut the lead of Kotoko to 12 points. That is quite huge. I'm wondering if they will be able to overcome such a gap.

Boadu can now have a sigh of relief after such an encounter. Let's hope they carry this momentum into the rest of the season.
