Three Ghanaian players, Jonathan Mensah, Harrison Afful and Emma Boateng, started for the Black & Gold against New York City FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS). Columbus Crew won the game by 3-1. Currently, the Ohio based club is 3rd on the Eastern Conference table with 34 points after 18 games.
Both Mensah and Afful played full throttle for the team, but Boateng was substituted on the 71st minute of the game. The two experienced players, Mensah and Afful have been very instrumental for the club this season. Mensah who is also the captain of the team has been adjudged by many as the best defender in the league so far. He has thus been tipped to swoop the MVP award at the end of the MLS season; but this will be dependent on a consistent performance throughout the season.
Likewise, Afful has also been consistent with his performance for the club. The 34-year-old right- back produces excellent diapays match after match and has been phenomenal on the right side of defence for Black & Gold in the ongoing season.
