The former boxer’s brother-Joseph Awudu Nelson, was reported dead last week after battling undisclosed sickness for some time.
Reacting to his brother's death, Azumah Nelson said “As Christians, we believe God gives life and he has the power to take it whenever he pleases,” he said in a statement copied to the Daily Graphic.We believe it was God who decided to give him rest so we can’t complain".
Azumah, who is popularly known in the boxing ring as 'Professor Zumzum 'Azumah Nelson, added that the Nelson family will meet this week to discuss funeral plans and update the public and loved ones about the burial arrangements.
'Professor' Azumah Nelson is a Ghanaian former professional boxer who competed from 1979 to 2008. He was a two-weight world champion, having held the WBC featherweight title from 1984 to 1987 and the WBC super-featherweight title twice between 1988 and 1997. The 63-year-old fought a total of 47 bouts, winning a staggering 39 times, drawing twice and losing just six.
His brother, Mr. Joseph Awudu Nelson died at the age of 59.
