Relegation Battle: 2020/21 Season Last Moments For King Faisal And Elmina Sharks

Whatever has to be done will be done by King Faisal and Elmina Sharks to avoid a demotion from the Ghana Premier League, but that hinges on how fellow strugglers such as Liberty Professionals, Ebusua Dwarfs and Legon Cities. The final round of matches could be a destiny changer for some beleaguered clubs, but others cannot elude the agony of relegation.

After beating Ebusua Dwarfs last weekend to move 40 points, top officials of King Faisal reckoned their battle against relegation is far from over. Against Asante Kotoko at Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi, King Faisal ought to have gone for the ultimate, but had to split points with their city rivals. That was the missing point that threw their survival hopes into disarray. Next on the table for the Kumasi-based club is a crucial visit to embattled Liberty Professionals. The game is labeled crucial in the sense that, both teams are in dire  need of all points to stay clear of relegation. The 39 points amassed by the Dansoman-based club is short of making significant progress from the drop arena. Playing at home, Liberty Professionals can only make amends if they win, same principle and ambition for King Faisal. Either club’s relegation will be made by possible courtesy that encounter on Sunday. A draw cannot be the life-saving drug for Liberty Professionals and King Faisal. The two clubs and others had a bad start to the league and they are paying a price for a lackadaisical approach.

Elsewhere, Elmina Sharks count on snatching all points against Asante Kotoko in Obuasi, as they look to avoid relegation after the final league game. Second to Inter Allies at the bottom, Elmina Sharks appear to be saying goodbye to the Ghana Premier League. The opponent to beat for survival makes the occasion extremely precarious for Central Region club. Their best shot against Asante Kotoko must be a win, but their current points of 38, drags them deep down. With a well-thought-out strategy, Elmina Sharks could count among clubs that have defeated Asante Kotoko in Obuasi this season. To stay is to win against Asante Kotoko, summarizing the lifeline for Elmina Sharks.

Ebusua Dwarfs host Bechem United, a game which must churn out victory for the former. Ebusua Dwarfs are on 38 points, same as Elmina Sharks, but playing at home gives a renewed opportunity for them to win and keep apart form the drop zone. They lose or draw at their peril.
