Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo called-up some players to feature for the team in the 2023 African Cup Of Nation qualifiers against the Barea of Madagascar and the Les Fauves of Central African Republic, and the Kirin Cup. One player among the call-ups that got many talking was Mubarak Wakaso. Many were of the view that, Mubarak Wakaso had not played a single minute as at the time of the call-up and hence didn't deserve the call-up.
One person that stood on his grounds and debated many to justify Wakaso's inclusion was Gary Al-Smith, a sports Journalist at Joy News TV. Gary had argue that, Wakaso got injured at the camp of the Black Stars in their World Cup qualifier against the Bafanabafana of South Africa, and that injury is what had not allow him to play any game as at the time of his invitation to the National team. With that reason stated, Gary said it was fair enough for Coach Otto Addo to invite Wakoso to the National team camp. Although many did not support his stand, he always stood for that.
In Ghana's match against Japan in the Kirin Cup, Wakoso played a full 90 minutes but his performance wasn't up to expectation.
After the game, Gary has admitted that Wakaso didn't deserve the call-up.
He took to his Facebook page and said, after watching the game,he sees that Wakaso doesn't merit a call-up in the Black Stars.
