The 34-year-old former IBF Lightweight world champion lost the chance to become a mandatory world title challenger after losing by a unanimous decision to the 33-year-old at the Madison Square Garden on Saturday. It was a wide margin on all three cards, with Lomachenko winning by 117-110, 119-108 and 119-108. Commey was outboxed and dropped in round seven which led to Loma signaling the Ghanaian’s corner to end the fight but they did not heed.
He survived the 12-rounds but lost out the opportunity to challenge Australian, George Kambosos who defeated Teofimo Lopez to add the WBA (Super) and WBO titles to his IBF belt. Commey still nurtures the ambition of winning the world title again very soon. “The aim and the ambition is still the same. “I want to be a two time World Champion and as far as my people believe in me, I will always represent them.” Richard Commey said.
Richard Commey now stands at (30-4,27 KOs) with Vasiliy Lomachenko rising up to (16-2, 11 KOs). Lomachenko will possibly have a crack at the WBA(Super), WBO and the IBF World titles held by George Kambosos of which he has shown keen interest.
