Ghana is out of the WAFU u-17 tournament currently taking place in Togo which also determines the countries to make it to the continental tournament and subsequently the world cup stage.Needing only a draw to advance to the semi finals after drawing 1:1 against Nigeria, they lost miserably to their Ivorian peers who beat them 3:1 in their second group match.
Over the years players have had to bribe coaches and other officials to get a chance to feature for the nation and it seems we never want to change from doing the wrong things as it is now being alleged in certain quarters that officials of the present squad took bribes from some of the players.Recently the owner of New Edubiase football club, Salam Yakubu made damning allegations against the FA with regards to discrimination in player selection to the junior national teams.Take a look at the present u-17 team and it is fully dominated by Akan and Northern names.Where are the Ga,Ewe and Nzema players? I, the writer don't belong to any of these tribes, but I am concerned about national unity. The various national teams should be all conclusive without discrimination but as things stand now, tribalism, politics and corruption seems to be the order of the day.
With the coming on board of a new management at the FA led by Mr Kurt Okraku, one would have thought that these negative practices would be stamped out.How can our game prosper with these kinds of sin? As things look now we will not be seeing the Starlets at the world cup.

01-14 08:02:49Bribery in juvenile football didn't start today. Until this canker is brought to a halt laurels at the senior level, eg Africa Cup, will continue to elude us. Ask the old players and you will hear horrible things.
