After fighting rebound victory over world No 1 side, England top Nations League group

After coming from behind to fight past Belgium 2-1 at Wembley with an outstanding second half showing, England moved top of their Nations League group.

Belgium took the lead after the misjudged challenge of Eric Dier in the box on Romelu Lukaku allowed the former Everton and Manchester United man to slot a penalty home (16), but after Thomas Meunier had pulled back Jordan Henderson at a corner, England levelled against the run of play with their own Marcus Rashford penalty (39).

After the break, England drastically improved and took the lead as the effort of Mason Mount deflected from Toby Alderweireld and into the top corner (64), and although Yannick Carrasco missed a clear opportunity to level, England could also have extended its lead through sub-Harry Kane and Rashford, both directing large chances wide.

As Gareth Southgate's side prepares to host Denmark again at Wembley on Wednesday, the result means England leapfrogs the world's highest-ranked side into top spot in UEFA Nations League Group A2, leading by a single point after three games.
