The much anticipated Ghana versus Nigeria came off today at the Cape Coast stadium. This was the final eliminator for the sole slot for who qualifies for the African Nations Cup for local players. Ghana had missed the last 3 editions and needed a major boost to beat the Nigerians and qualify.
Today’s match started with both sides trying to outplay the other. It was the Black Galaxies who got a number of chances but failed to utilize them. The Super Eagles B have to thank their goalie for rescuing them on a number of dangerous goal moments from the Black Galaxies.
As the second half started, the Black Galaxies started mounting pressure and this paid off as a penalty was awarded. Afriyie Barnie expertly slotted in the ball to send the Ghana team up by a goal. In the 87th minutes, Seidu Suraj dashed to slot in a ball the Nigeria goalie should have caught. This second goal put Ghana ahead by 2-0.
It will be all action when the Super Eagles B take on the Black Galaxies in the second leg in Nigeria. This result gives Ghana a major boost in the second leg. For the Nigerians, there is pressure mounting on them to play it hard and beat Ghana at home. Only time will tell. For now, congratulations to the Black Galaxies of Ghana for this hard fought win in Cape Coast.
