Ghana : Covid19 update few days after Vaccine arrived in the country

On 23 February, COVAX shipped 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/ Oxford vaccine, from the Serum Institute of India (SII) from Pune, India to Accra, Ghana, arriving on the morning of 24 February.

This was indeed a good news as the table had now turned in our favour in the fight against Covid19.

The virus's invasion into the world and our country wrecked havoc both on economic and on social fronts.

This meant institutions had to be closed down and social ties severed for some time to help stop the spread of the virus.

In the wake of the virus, the Ghana Health provided update ( ans still does) on the current state of infections active cases as well as those who have recovered from the virus.

Below is a pictorial view of the latest update on the Ghana Health Service's Website.

From the update, the overall total for positive cases stands at 82,586.

The number of recoveries and discharged cases stands at 76,573 with an active case count of 5,419.

Unfortunately, 594 people have lost their lives and 455 new people contracted the virus.

We entreat all to continue practicing all personal hygiene protocol as well as all Covid19 safety protocols, despite the availability of a vaccine which is yet to be rolled out to.
