Hearts of Oak retains MTN FA Cup title with win over Bechem United

After a 2-1 victory over Bechem United on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak successfully defended their MTN FA Cup title.

The Phobians came back from a goal down to win the FA Cup for the record 12th time.

Emmanuel Avornyo opened the scoring for Bechem United early in the game.

The tall striker pounced on a rebound and slid the ball home to give his team the lead.

A shot from Caleb Amankwah rescued a point for Hearts of Oak in the final minute of first-half play as the two sides shared the spoils.

While Abdulai's defense remained strong after the break, the Phobians' raised their zeal in the game and produced some scoring opportunities.

The Phobians took the lead in the 60th minute when Daniel Afriyie Barnie scored a stunning goal.

In the 68th minute, Augustine Okrah was sent off for attacking the assistant line one. Headbutting the referee resulted in Bechem United's winger being sent off.

As a result, Hearts of Oak won the MTN FA Cup for the 12th time in succession.

This year's champion Phobians will represent Ghana at the 2019 CAF Confederations Cup in South Africa.
