
The Black Stars of Ghana was formed in the 1951. During the early stages of the team’s formation, players of the team played with no boots.
However, as time went on, complains on the absence of boots resulting in the numerous losses in their first encounter led to the wearing of boots.
Historically, the first international game played by the Black Stars of Ghana was held between the Ghanaian side and Super Eagles of Nigeria.
There was a total of ten matches played between the two West African countries with Nigeria dominating with regards to wins. The matches were played in home and away legs in an order where the first leg was held at Accra while the second leg was staged in Lagos till the ten matches were.
Ghana won three of the matches while Nigeria won four of the games with one match resulting in a draw. At that time, the official jersey colors for the Ghanaian team was green shirts with white shorts.
