Black Stars: Players Begin To Report To Camp For World Cup Play Off On Friday

Black Stars players have started to report to camp ahead of the epic World Cup qualifier against the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria. Whereas some players have touched down, others are yet to report to duty.

As at Monday, March 21, 2022, most of the players have arrived in Ghana to begin preparations for the crucial game. Goalkeepers Joseph Wollacot and Richard Ofori had already reported to camp to start preparations. One of the duo is likely to man the post for Ghana on Friday. Richard Ofori had the favorite candidate until his recent injury, compelling former head coach Milovan Rajevac to bring on board Joseph Wallocot, who assumed the goalkeeping post for Ghana. It is not known if a local goalkeeper will be added to the list as rumors have hinted the invitation of goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim of Ghana Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko.

Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Atta had the opportunity to join the Senior National team as a local goalkeeper, but after picking up an injury against Aduana Stars, the goalkeeper could be sidelined for other options. His position was taken over by Richmond Ayi when Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Ashanti Gold 2:1 last night.

Defenders Alexander Djiku, Andy Yiadom, Joseph Aidoo, Dennis Korsah and Gideon Mensah were available in camp as at today. Dennis Korsah joins the team following the injury of Baba Abdul Rahman. He comes as a direct replacement to the former Asante Kotoko defender.

Other players such as Yaw Yeboah, Edmond Addo, Christopher Antwi-Adjei, Antoine Semenyo, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey, Fatawu Issahaku and Felix Afena-Gyan have all reported to national call. Daniel Kofi Kyere has been tipped to replicate his blistering form at club level. His presence is seen as major booster for coach Otto Addo and his deputies. Thomas Partey is expected to take full charge as team leader following the suspension of substantive skipper Dede Ayew. Dede Ayew’s card accumulation at the Nations Cup bars him from part taking in the World Cup showdown. His brother Jordan Ayew has been invited as confirmed by his club and is expected in camp as soon as possible.

Antoine Semenyo got inured over the weekend but Black Stars medical team is assessing his situation to understand how dire the condition is.

Other players are on their way to join the Senior National team. The Black Stars of Ghana expect a full house by close of the day through to early tomorrow.
