The local department of the senior national football team, the Black Galaxies displayed a great performance when they came up against their west African counterparts, Benin in the CHAN qualifiers on Sunday, 24th July, 2022. The team which took a new image probably because of the new name looked more promising than it had been in the past two years.

Ghana was one of the first teams to win the play of the maiden edition of the tournament and there were a lot of expectations from the West African giants. For the past two tournaments, the local Black Stars as it was formerly called failed to make an appearance and the signs weren’t too good for a team that had started off so well in this competition.

Coach Annor Walker and his boys were poised for action and it was exhibited the results; beating Benin by three goals to nil at the Cape Coast stadium. The results place Ghana in a very good position and if the return leg goes well for them, it will see them qualify for the next stage. The qualification will also give much confidence to the players to play in the local league and it will help improve the league as well. Could it be that Ghana missed out in the last two editions because the standard of the league had fallen? Well, let’s wait for the qualification then we can make our judgements. For now, we say ayekoo to the playing body, the technical team and the management.
