Head coach of Accra Great Olympics, Annor Walker has described the deal signed between his employers and Hearts of Oak for the transfer of Gladson Awako as a “bad contract” following the player’s move from Accra Hearts of Oak to join rival club, Accra Great Olympics for the 2021/22 league season and the CAF Champions League.
The 30-year- old following the expiration of his deal last season, switched camp from the “Wonder Club” to fhe 2020/21 Ghana Premier League champions in a 2-year deal following his contracts expiration with the club. Awako was the key cog of the two times Ghana Premier League holders last term and with much experience in domestic and continental football, the millennium champions saw him as a perfect tonic to help their 2021/22 CAF Champions League journey. The diminutive forward would unceremoniously leave the Rainbow club just a little over a month after crossing carpet to join them and eventually miss the first preliminary CAF Champions League encounter against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar in Accra.
Annor Walker, who remolded and transformed the former TP Mazembe forward following his return from a partial globe trot says Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak agreed to a bad contract in the player’s stead. “The contract between both clubs was a bad contract and for that matter you can’t sign a contract which has clause stating that, before 2nd October, 2021, Hearts must pay the transfer fee or else the player won’t join them. “That is not good, so management has to consider the circumstances and allow the boy to rejoin them otherwise the player will not play in the upcoming season.” Annor Walker told Omy tv.
Gladson Awako played for former Ghana Premier League champions, Berekum Chelsea after starting his career at now Division One League side, Hearts of Lions and later moved to join Congolese giants, TP Mazembe in the year 2013. He was sent on loan to another Congo club, Don Bosco for more playing time before making a return to TPM after his loan stint. He left TP Mazembe in 2017 and had a brief spell at USL club, Phoenix Risings in 2018. He returned to Ghana after his short spell with Phoenix Risings to sign for Accra Great Olympics where he shone brightly in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League before a move to Hearts of Oak. The Ghana Premier League transfer closes on Friday 23rd October.
