Leaders Asante Kotoko extended their lead at the top of the ongoing 2021/22 Ghana Premier League, (GPL) with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Medeama SC this afternoon.
Cameroonian import George Mfegue scored the lone goal for the Porcupines midway through the second half at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi to win all three points for the home side.
Kotoko extended their lead at the top of the stairs to six points from second placed Aduana FC who play Dreams FC tomorrow afternoon at Dawu.
The Porcupines have 30 points from 13 matches and have a game in hand against their bitter rivals Hearts of Oak to be played next month.
This afternoon's game with Medeama SC was one Kotoko dominated and should have won by a higher margin.
They could even afford to miss a penalty late in the game in claiming this victory over a Medeama SC side that has been impressive in their output lately.
In other GPL Matchday 14 games played this weekend, Karela United continued with their recent good form with an important 1-0 home victory over Accra Hearts of Oak at Anyinase on Saturday.
AshantiGold SC returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Accra Lions in the capital also on Saturday.
Accra Great Olympics beat King Faisal Babes 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium; Gold Stars handed Legon Cities a 2-1 defeat at Bibiani with Eleven Wonders winning 1-0 at home to RTU at Techiman.
WAFA earned an important away point with a goalless drawn game at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park against Bechem United.
Bottom side Elmina Sharks and Berekum Chelsea drew goalless at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina.
Dreams FC will host Aduana FC at the Dawu Park on Monday to close the GPL Matchday 14 encounters.
