Afutu has been negotiating with a new contract from the club but his demands are too high for the Phobians. The different in the Hearts of Oak midfield is the tackler who always show that he holds the heart of the Hearts of Oak midfield. Playing Afutu and Frederick Ansah Botchwey is one of the best in the league considering the move out of the team will cost them. The Phobians will host Allies in the regional derby at the Accra Sports Stadium this Sunday. Afutu is suspended for the match due to accumulated yellow cards in games against Legon Cities FC, Berekum Chelsea and AshantiGold SC last weekend.
This is in line with Article 28(1)(e) of the GFA Premier League Regulations (2019) which states that "An unqualified player is a player who has received a caution in three league matches." The talented midfielder has been instrumental in the midfield for the phobians this season and his absence could be felt on Sunday. He has bagged 2 goal in 14 matches for the Accra based club so far this season in the Ghana Premier league.
The Phobians want to retain their past glory in the league by winning since Kosta Papic push them to a respectable position some decades ago. It has been very difficult to see the club in Africa for almost a fearsome years which can't be forgotten. The player only player to consistently play many matches this season has been Afutu who is every coach's choice and has played 90minutes in every match, this speaks for the player to be maintained in the team with a well improved contractual terms and agreement. The 24-year-old was reported to have traveled to Azerbaijan in a bid to secure a contract at an unnamed top-tier club after failing to reach an agreement with the Phobians over a new deal. The former Great Olympics midfielder and Karela United player was however pictured at the side’s St. Thomas Aquinas training ground as the club prepare for the resumption of the 2020/21 season.
