Liverpool suffered a dramatic end to last season after losing out on both the premier league title and the Champions League in the space of one week.

Premier League defender Van Dijk has voiced out his opinion about why Liverpool lost a bit of grip in the last days of the season. According to the defender, he thinks their form in the last part of the season was affected by Mohammed Salah’s contract situation.

Salah eventually clinched the golden boot award but only scored 1 goal in their last five games and also failed to score in each of the finals Liverpool played in last season.
Van Dijk said “We are all human beings and I think that affected him a little bit unfortunately. But he still showed a high level of quality. Now everything is sorted, he’s playing with a free mind, he’s happy to be here and I think everyone else is happy too.”
Salah has since signed a 3 year contract extension and will seek to replicate his stunning form for the reds even in the absence of his compatriot Sadio Mane who has joined Bayern Munich.
