Premier League

Check out all the important statistics in the GPL ahead of the Matchday 29 fixtures in midweek

After 28 matches in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, GPL, it is becoming clear which side will emerge victorious with the title and which three teams will be relegated at the end of the campaign.

The statistics ahead of the Matchday 29 encounters makes interesting reading with Asante Kotoko leading the pack with 56 points, nine points better than the second placed team, Bechem United.

And with six matches to end the campaign, the Porcupines look favourites to wrestle the title from reigning champions Accra Hearts of Oak who are fourth on the table, 12 points behind the leaders.

Asante Kotoko's Cameroonian striker Frank Etouga Mbella also leads the goal king chat with 19 goals as he seeks to become the first foreigner to win the top scorer award in the history of the top-flight league in Ghana.

Life at the bottom of the table looks very dicey as up to 10 clubs could all be relegated if results in the last six matches do not go in their favour.

The bottom three clubs are King Faisal Babes, WAFA and Elmina Sharks who are firmly rooted to the foot of the table.

In all, 252 matches have been played in the ongoing 2021-22 GPL campaign with 515 goals scored in the league so far.

In the ongoing campaign, 26 red cards have been handed out across all centres; 16 penalties have been missed in the competition with six own goals being scored.

Goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu of Bechem United has kept the most clean sheets, (16) in the competition, with Augustine Frimpong of RTU as the player with the most assists in the GPL, seven in all.

The GPL will continue with the Matchday 28 fixtures in midweek, (Wednesday and Thursday) and, these aforementioned statistics are bound to change after the games are over.
