The Phobians are representing Ghana after winning the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League at the expense of their bitter rivals, Asante Kotoko. The 2000 CAF Champions League winners were in a blistering form last season when coach Samuel Boadu was brought in to run the affairs of the technical team following the departure of Serbian trainer, Costa Papic mid-way through the season. The millennium champions raked home a staggering 61 points with Asante Kotoko coming second with 57 points at the end of the season. Hearts of Oak did not end the search for glory there but went ahead to claim the MTN FA Cup title the same season. The 2001 CAF Super Cup winners beat AshantiGold 8-7 on penalty shootouts to win a record 11th title with Kotoko on nine titles.
The Phobians by virtue of winning the 2020 Ghana Premier League were paired against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar for first preliminary CAF Champions clash over two legs but later became one leg because of the Coup D’Etat in Guinea. Hearts of Oak beat CI KAMSAR 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium to now set up a second preliminary clash with Morocco side, Wydad Athletic Club. The first leg is set for the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 17 with the return fixture in one week.
Hearts of Oak midfielder Salim Adams, has asserted that that, they are going to tame Wydad Athletic Club this Sunday. The Phobians will clash with the two time African champions this Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. The 19 year old joined the 'Phobians' from second tier club, New Edubiase FC. He made his debut coming off the bench to score against Guinean sode, Club Industriel de Kamsar in the same competition. Speaking ahead of the game, the Black Satellites midfielder said, they are ever ready to beat the Moroccan giants come Sunday.
“We have confidence we can play like it’s a normal game. It’s important of course but in the end, our target is just one target: we need to win the game convincingly and go to Morocco with a good result.” Adams told Phobianews.com. "I’m enjoying life at Hearts, but the players make it easier and the coach also makes it easier for me,” Adams said. “But as I said, results are the most important thing. I’m doing good and I feel good with the team and I’m trying to help the team always to get points. “I try in every game to score, to do something different, but I’m happy about our performances and about what we have right now.”
