The much talked about player players did not impressed not even a little bit but showed some character of laziness. In times where the players are needed the most the likes of Emmanuel Sarkodie and Kwame Poku who has been overrated never came to the party. Meanwhile, the underdogs of Hearts of Oak made things easier with Isaac Mensah and Patrick Razak. Poku has been one of the promising players recruited by the club and the youngster was looking forward to making his debut in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season. "It has always been my dream to play in the league and to play for one of the biggest clubs such as Asante Kotoko is a huge honour", he said in an interview with the club's media. "I will try to leave up to expectation so when its time for me to leave, there would be a legacy over here for me for other players to emulate".
Kwame Poku as part of the winner’s package received GHC 5,000 worth of Hisense products. Poku had two goals nominated, one against Liberty and another against WAFA alongside Christopher Nettey’s header against Ebusua Dwarfs. The fans voted for the goal against Liberty where he controlled a lovely pass from Fabio Gama with the chest and bulldozed his way through the Liberty defence before sublimely dinking the approaching goalkeeper to score his second in the game.
More importantly, Ghana Premier League club Hearts of Oak have made another addition to their squad with the acquisition of forward Isaac Mensah. The striker has joined the Accra-based side in a three-year deal from lower division fold Nkoranza Warriors.
He is the latest to join the Phobian family following the likes of former Bechem United ace Abedenago Tetteh and returnee defender Nuru Sulley. Regarded as one of the best teenage forwards in the country, he was an exciting addition to Edward Odoom’s side, joining the likes of Abednego Tetteh, Danjuma Kuti, Daniel Afriyie Barnie and Kojo Obeng Jr. in the attacking department of the club. Mensah has been with Nkoranza Warriors for just a season but has finally decided to move to Accra to show off his talents there.
The prolific super sub has been scoring in the die embers of the games. In times like this, he needs to be given a better treatment and as outstanding in the game against Asante Kotoko. He came in and won a penalty for the side to ensure that all things should be going on well for the Phobians'. Resuming the second half to play with more intent, Hearts of Oak managed to get the better of the opponent at the end of the 90 minutes. Substitute Isaac Mensah scored with a fine effort in the 74th minute to ensure the visiting team amassed the maximum three points at the end of the game. This is the second win for the Phobians since the resignation of Kosta Papic.
