Many may think that the Red card abd Yellow cards as we grew up to see was introduced bt Fifa. The information is that, it was introduced by a man called Ken Aston. Ken Aston was a young teacher who had real passion for football. He rose through the ranks of refereeing and was highly rated by the football community to be a very astute and strong character with a presence on the field of play.
Due to his outstanding skills he was asked to referee a match between hosts England and Argentina in 1966. This match was predicted to be a very high aggresive match and the football body needed someone with good skill to handle the match. The match saw the police heavily involved in order to bring calm. England won that game by two goals to nothing. This game raised a lot of eyebrows and prompted the football body to be on their toes.
"As i drove down Kensington street, the traffic light turned red. I thought, yellow take it easy, Red, stop, you are off". This was the words of Ken Aston.
The 1970 world cup which was held in Mexico, saw the yellow and red cards being used. Aston was awarded the MBE(Member of the order of British Empire) in 1997. He died in 23rd October, 2001 at age 86.
