Hearts of Oak were not given a dog’s chance to come closer to the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title let alone win it. However they managed to grab some points in the course of the season to stay afloat. Youth team coach, Edward Odoom did a good job with the ote-season and some games in the season. He was however replaced by Serbian trainer, Costa Papic who also managed to grab some points. Costa Papic will however leave the side mid-way through the season, leaving the position vacant.
Another Youth team coach, Nii Noi also took charge and managed to win some games before Hearts of Oak’s brought in former head coach of Medeama who changed the face of the club’s playing body. He led the Phobians to 13 games without a single defeat last season with only West Africa Football Academy stopping them towards their search for a 14th win. Hearts of Oak will also go on to win the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup after beating AshantiGold 8-7 on penalty shootouts.
Hearts of Oak will now be paired against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar in the first preliminary 2021/22 CAF Champions League qualifier. They beat the Guinea side 2-0 in a one legged qualifier due to the Coup D’Etat in Guinea. Hearts of Oak have now set up a second preliminary clash against Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club. The first leg comes up on Sunday, October 17 with the second leg set for 24th October at the Mohammed V Stadium in Rabat. Hearts of legend, Mohammed Polo has charged the club to go all out against the Morocco side.
“It is time for the players to show the quality they are made of. “We have shown our quality and it is time for them to show the quality they are made off. We have passed the baton to them to show. They have to prove a point and play above themselves.“I am hopeful if they believe in what they have and the technical men push them to perform we will see something good and the results will be positive as well.“The game will be difficult but the players must be up to the task and prove their quality." Mohammed Polo said.
