Good News: Hearts of Oak Handed a Big Boost Ahead of JS Saoura Clash

Accra Hearts of Oak have been boosted ahead of their second leg CAF Confederation Cup clash against Jeunesse Sportive de Saoura on Sunday.

The Phobians made a bold step towards qualifying to the group stage of the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup with a 2-0 victory over the Algerian club last Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Phobians got their two goals from talismanic forward, Salifu Ibrahim on the 16th minute of the first half. He was set up by Daniel Afriyie Barnieh which he headed home for the opener. The Phobians held on to the slim lead into the half time break. Back from recess, Hearts of Oak got off to yet another good start with breathtaking displays.

Unfortunately the first goal scorer, Salifu Ibrahim was not able to continue for them after being stretchered off injured. His place was taken by Isaac Agyenim Boateng on the 48th minute. Agyenim Boateng found Hearts of Oak’s second goal on the 72nd minute after he latched on to William Denkyi’s low cross from the left side of attack. Hearts of Oak go into the second leg with a 2-0 advantage and will need a win, draw or a slim defeat to progress to the group stage of the competition.

Hearts of Oak were initially dealt a big blow when news broke that Salifu Ibrahim would not be available for the return fixture but that bad news has watered down. The former Eleven Wonders forward has recovered in time to be able to make the trip to Algeria for the second which is a big boost for coach Samuel Boadu.
