Rumour Has It: Atletico Madrid eye Griezmann sale to fund Ronaldo move

Atletico Madrid are trying to sale Griezmann to fund Ronaldo move

According to reports, Atletico Madrid plans to sell Antoine Griezmann to pay for an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo in an effort to lure the star player from Portugal back to La Liga.

Ronaldo skipped Manchester United's preseason trip to the Far East and Australia because of rumors that he wants to leave Old Trafford if a good offer is made.

Ronaldo, who is regarded as one of the best players in the modern era, is likely to limit his options by only accepting a transfer to a team that can give him a chance at significant European success once more.

Griezmann has been linked to a number of European powerhouses, but the money needed to pay his salary is also a huge roadblock. According to The Times, Atletico are trying to get Griezmann off their books.

The World Cup champion and France international, who switched from Atletico to Barcelona in 2019, made a disastrous comeback to Wanda Metropolitano last year in an effort to regain his best form.

A permanent transfer is expected to take effect at the end of his two-season loan, although Diego Simeone's team is eager to offload him sooner.

However, potential buyers like Paris Saint-Germain are not interested in acquiring Griezmann, indicating that Neymar will stay at the Parc des Princes despite leave rumors.

The Mirror reports that if Ronaldo activated a one-year contract that would guarantee his Old Trafford return in 2023, United would allow him to leave on a season-long loan agreement.

- According to Sport, Barcelona hopes to successfully sabotage Chelsea's pursuit of Jules Kounde by paying Sevilla in one big sum rather than the installments the Blues want.

The seasoned attacker signed a two-year contract in a dramatic homecoming last season, but he was unable to assist United avoid losing out on a top-four finish, thus as of right now, he won't be playing in the Champions League.

- According to The Sun, Newcastle are considering a move for Leicester winger Harvey Barnes, but the Foxes' £50 million asking price is putting a kink in their plans.

- According to The Athletic, Brighton would not accept anything less than £50 million for Marc Cucurella. This is due to the Seagulls' refusal to lower their asking price in response to Manchester City's £30 million bid.

Timo Werner is considering leaving Chelsea during this transfer window because the German international is worried about his playing time leading up to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
