Former Asante Kotoko striker, Kwame Poku has refuted media reports adducing to his return to the Porcupine Warriors.
The 21-year-old left the record Ghana Premier League holders for a sojourn in Algeria last season after a blistering start to the 2020/21 Ghana league season. The former Nkoranza Warriors attacker signed a four-year deal with top side, USM Alger in a deal believed to be in the region of $300,000. He has struggled to command a regular shirt at the Algerian outfit this season due to injury. His lack of playing time led to media reports in Ghana linking him to a return to Asante Kotoko but the ebony black forward has watered down all those claims.
“It was somebody who informed me of the news of my return to Kotoko. “I had not heard the news but Kotoko is a club I love very much because I played for them in Ghana. “But for now it has not crossed my mind to return to Kotoko but with football, you never know tomorrow so if God wills why not. “But for now there is no communication or whatsoever going on between my management or player agent, no. “There is no truth in the matter. My agent calls me almost everyday and he makes me aware of any plan. “Even before I do anything he [agent]first tells me what to do before we take a step so none of us can do anything without communication.” Kwame Poku told Adansie fm.
Before leaving Ghana for Algeria, he had scored nine goals in 20 games for Asante Kotoko. His performance earned him a Black Stars call up in Ghana’s last two 2021 AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé in South Africa and Ghana respectively. He made his Black Stars debut against the Bafana Bafana at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa which ended 1-1 to cement Ghana’s 2021 AFCON qualification.
