Asante Kotoko are yet to come to Ghana after leaving for Dubai few days ago. Asante Kotoko technical head and his henchmen are putting things together to carve out a formidable team for 2021/22 Ghana Premier League. The preseason in Dubai is progressing steadily for the club.
Having played two matches without a win in Dubai, a section of Asante Kotoko supporters appear to be asking questions as to whether the team is in good shape to compete for the Premier League title. Asante Kotoko lost by a lone goal in the first preseason game in Dubai and drew in the second. The team was billed for third game yesterday but was called off due to technical reasons. That has been rescheduled to Thursday. With these outcomes, many are those who are beginning to cast doubt on the readiness of the team.
It is striking to point out, matches played in Dubai are purely for preseason activities. Coaches are afforded the luxury of time to use preseason in putting together a formidable team that will be able to withstand the test of time when the season kicks off. Tactics and system are assessed during this period.
Having sacked Mariano Barreto and appointed Prosper Ogum, it is the off season period that gives the new coach enviable opportunity to mould a team that will play according to his style of coaching, that is, system and formation. Prosper Ogum’s concerns in the immediate time is far from wining matches in Dubai but rather to get a full insight into what could become a major obstacle in the team. Those two results must have informed him what to rectify.
Again, Asante Kotoko have had to offload some players and bring on board new lads for the imminent campaign. The blend of old and new players takes place during this time of the club’s calendar. It becomes worrying if players start the season without working as a unit. Telepathic play is planned and built from this period which eventually takes full swing into the season proper.
It worths to point out however that Asante Kotoko will need to return home early and play some few local clubs before they go for their first Premier League fixture. The experience in Dubai coupled with some local matches will fine-tune the team, putting it into full gear for opponents.
Asante Kotoko supporters may have concerns but preseason matches must not raise tempers especially when a new coach and players are putting heads together to elevate the bar.
