AshantiGold SC took the lead at half-time after Yaw Annor scored his 20th goal of the season with a fantastic strike. To disrupt Asante Kotoko's game plan, the Miners defeated the Porcupine Warriors, dominated play in the midfield, and kept their defensive line intact.
Yaw Annor broke Kotoko's defensive line to break the game's stalemate in the 12th minute after Andrews Appau had mistakenly missed a ball sent to him.
The host defense took away Asante Kotoko's sharpshooter Frank Mbella Etuoga.
The Miners launched a barrage of attempts on the Asante Kotoko defense in the game's final 30 minutes, but Danlad Ibrahim saved multiple well-drilled shots aimed at goal.
Yaw Annor, who has been striking from all sides of the ground, was unable to double up against the Porcupine Warriors. With Asante Kotoko defensively oriented in the waning minutes of the first half, the Miners squandered numerous opportunities.
Asante Kotoko, who were trailing by a goal at the time, changed their tactics after the break, but the Miners held firm to withstand the Porcupine Warriors' pressure. Asante Kotoko drew level with a well-placed free-kick from Imoro Ibrahim, which was headed into the Miners' net by Maxwell Agyemang.
Maxwell Agyemang's header flew wide as the Porcupine Warriors came close to scoring their second goal of the day.
