If any app, lauds will be given to any goalkeeper in post for the past 3 matches, we can not take out the presence of the second goalkeeper of Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities. Winfred Selorm Komla Honu is eyeing a good season with his outfit with the arrival of top players in the team.
Honu began his football career in 2010, playing with the youth sides of NADM in his hometown of Hohoe. He was a member of the NADM team that won two Volta Region Division 2 Middle League titles, in 2012–13 and 2014–15. Honu joined Division Two League club Likpe Heroes in 2017. He was named as the man of the match during a 2018 Ghanaian FA Cup match against WAFA
Since then the destiny changed to be better as the Royals have signed him to show his strength. The domestic top-flight league is set to start this month after several months of inactive football in the country and according to the goalkeeper; he hopes his side can deliver as he strongly believes he and his teammates has no excuse to fail.
Speaking to Kumasi based Angel FM, he said, “I can say that we are in good shape ahead of the season after three weeks of intensive training. So we are hoping for the best for the upcoming season. We don’t have any excuse to fail because the management has done their part and it’s our turn to deliver”.
Legon Cities secured their first three points of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season with a 1-0 win over WAFA at the Accra Sports Stadium last two weeks Friday night. Joseph Adjei’s penalty was enough to see the game through for the home side. WAFA had the chance to take the lead in the early stages of the game from a free-kick but Legon Cities goalkeeper, Komla Honu managed to keep the ball out.
But in their encounter between the Phobia boys, the Legon Cities keeper displayed some smazing techniques to secure themselves something splendid to gain a national team call up which his club doesn't favor him. Jonah Attuquaye gave the Royals the lead with a superb solo goal in the 16th minute against the run of play.
Hearts of Oak had plethora of chances to get back into the game but could not beat the inspirational Komla Honu in Legon Cities FC goal. The young shot-stopper made three quick saves midway through the match when his outfit were under severe pressure from the Phobians.
