Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Ghana National Football team (Black Stars) has expressed his disappointment, after Ghana failed to beat The Panthers of Gabon in the 33rd edition of Africa Cup of Nations on Friday 14 January 2022 in Cameroon.
The Black Stars; after losing their first match to The Atlas Lions of Morocco needed to bounce back against Gabon. They got off to a good start, taking a well-deserved lead through the captain Andre Ayew, who scored in the 18th minute, but a poor performance in the second half saw Ghana conceding a late goal, for the second straight game, as Gabon snatched a crucial point in Yaounde.
Speaking on SuperSport in reaction to the Black Stars's performance, Asamoah GYan said, “I’m not happy. We deserved the three points but I think we lost a bit of concentration and conceded a goal in the last minute. We cannot keep on conceding goals in the latter stages of the game”.
Asamoah Gyan's comments shows he is really disappointment in Ghana's performances so far in the Afcon tournament; but, the big question Ghanaians must asked Mr. Gyan is...how painful was it to him (Asamoah Gyan)...when Ghana lost to Morocco, and drew with Gabon?
Again, Ghanaians must ask Mr. Gyan...if he knows how painful and heartbreaking it was, when he... as the captain of the Black Stars, successfully led the team to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, only to put the whole African Continent into a state of shock?
After 120 minutes of entertaining football between Ghana and Uruguay in the quarter-finals, Luis Suarez of Uruguay gave Ghana a clear penalty, which could have pushed Ghana to a historic semi final; but what did we see? Asamoah Gyan stepped up for the kick and, lo and behold, his penalty hit the woodwork... and that was the biggest shock, the biggest disappointment and the biggest broken heart Ghanaians and the African Continent have ever experience in football.
Today; if Asamoah Gyan is not a captain...if he is no longer in the team, but is watching the games as an ordinary Ghanaian....why will he be disappointed in the Black Stars poor performances in the Afcon 2022? What has changed? The same weak black Stars he led to disappoint Ghanaians is still disappointing us. His comments must be rebuked by Ghanaians.
The Black Stars of Ghana, on 10 January, had their first encounter with The Atlas Lions of Morocco, in the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, and lost by 1 goal to nail. The played 1:1 with the Gabon, and is getting ready to meet Comoros, on Tuesday January 18, at 7 pm local time.
What do you think...do you agree with Asamoah, for saying, he is not happy, and that "We cannot keep on conceding goals in the latter stages of the game"?
