A striker’s primary aim is to score goals and more goals at the end of every football season. A striker who cannot score more goals must provided assists or create more scoring chances for his team mates to score in order for his club to get the needed numbers. Every football club needs two types of strikers and those are the ones who score more goals and those that assist or create more scoring chances. One club that needs it the most at this point in time is Ghana Premier League champions, Accra Hearts of Oak.
Their participation in the 2021/22 CAF Champions League has got off to a good start. The Phobians eliminated Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar after just one leg due to the Coup D’Etat in Guinea. The Phobians scored two goals with Club Industriel de Kamsar failing to reply any of the two goals. Bulky striker, Kofi Kodzi scored from a superb free kick with young midfielder, Salim Adams driving home the second from about 20-yards to make the 2-0 for Hearts of Oak. We shall talk about one of the goal scorers and that is Kofi Kodzi.
The burly striker joined Accra Hearts of Oak in 2019 from Division Two club, Royals Football Club after impressing the technical team in a two week trial. He signed a three year deal with the 2000 CAF Champions League winners. His well built nature, strength, power and energy endeared him to the Phobian fans at large. He has quite quick feet which help him match his style of play. He might not be a clinical finisher but his presence in opponent’s goal area creates room for other strikers or players to score for the club.
The 26-year-old striker made his Hearts of Oak debut in the GFA Normalization Committee game against Dreams FC where he played full time in Hearts of Oak’s 10 victory. Kofi Kodzi on 28 April 2019, he scored his first goal for Hearts of Oak in the 78th minute of a 2–0 home victory over now relegated club, Inter Allies.
Kofi Kodzi has the chance to sign for Qatari club, Al Muaither in a deal reported to be in the region of $150,000. He joined them for the 2020/21 season. Kofi Kodzi at the end of his first season with the club, he played 22 matches and scored 8 goals. He has however returned to Hearts of Oak after the expiration of his contract and he believes that, now he has learnt a lot and feels like a complete striker. Hearts of Oak striker Kofi Kordzi said: ‘I just feel more complete footballer now. I’ve tried to master all the facets that a striker needs and I just want to keep improving on the small details all the time and keep improving on my strengths as well. I want to make sure that they feel comfortable and they can lean on me in whatever situation we’re in.”
