In few weeks time, the Black Stars of Ghana will hit the ground running, in preparation for 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. As Black Stars head coach prepares to come out with his squad, there are some local players who have proven themselves to earn an invite.
Ismael Abdul Ganiu gave an irresistible performance in his maiden game for Black Stars, after which Ghanaians heaped bunch of praise on him. Fast forward, he established a comfortable position in Asante Kotoko, giving coach Barreto little to brood over. The center back continues to compete for a starting role in Black Stars and is expected to definitely make the list. With time, he will take over from where his predecessors left off.
Left back of Asante Kotoko Imoro Ibrahim is expected to enjoy another spell with the Senior National Team. The workaholic defender has not looked back, following the maiden Black Stars call-up. At club level, he continues to give Asante Kotoko five star performance, which has convinced Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto to rely on him. His consistent display puts him above his competitors in the local league. In Black Stars, he will give option for Charles Akonnor to explore and pick a starter.
Diawisie Taylor is pencilled to make the list in the impending squad announcement. The lethal frontman has been scoring for Karela United this season. His inclusion will intensify competition in goal scoring and reduce the burden on other senior players.
Gladson Awako of Accra Great Olympics is in contention for an invite. The midfield maestro has remained on course this season, leading his colleagues to make an impact this season. He does not only lead his team, but also contributes immensely to team success. His performance sets him above other players deployed in the same role.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku of Division One side Steadfast is working hard to justify why he deserves a call-up. His stupendous performance in the African Cup has been replicated in the second tier. He remains a hero for Steadfast and could appear on Charles Akonnor’s list.
